ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY
Saints celebrated on the 8th January
Cunegundes (Kunigundis, Gunegundis, Kunigunde), a niece (sister's daughter) of bishop Saint Ulrich of Augsburg, is mentioned in the life of bishop Saint Erhard of Ratisbon [Regensburg] on January 8 (I. 538. no. 3).
An excellent pious nun at the Niedermünster monastery in Regensburg, she was a contemporary of Saint Wolfgang. As overseer of church affairs (sacristan) she miraculously received an order from a speaking Crucifix. Cunegundes was thus instructed to tidy up the tomb of bishop Saint Erhard, from which a linen cloth stuck out, because some servants who swept the church did not treat the prelate's burial place with due respect by daring to tear off bits of this linen cloth. This is also related in two other biographies that mention her on January 8 (540. no. 7. and 544. no. 13). Nothing else is known of her.
