HUGH OF PRATO, RELIGIOUS
Hugh of Prato (Hugo de Prato), of the Order of the Minorites, worked as a missionary in Tartary and died there around the year 1312.
According to the Hueb. Men.* he is also called Pancera or Pantiera (armour, Italian panciera), because of an iron armour which he wore on his bare body for 40 years in order to subdue his flesh.
The Bollandists* (I. 359) refer to the Art. Mart.*, where he is called "blessed" and note that Hugh Pancera was "from Pancera in the Orient." By the way, this Pancera does not even exist.
