ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL
Saints celebrated on the 22nd of April
Jacinthe Alliot (Hyacinthus), of Bar-le-duc, was a monk in the monastery of Saint Michel on the Meuse. After studying medicine and philosophy in Paris, he subsequently taught the latter at his institute, mostly according to Descartes' system.
He was then employed in various monastic offices, finally coadjutor of his abbot and afterwards his successor. He restored the discipline and the finances of the monastery, which had been very exhausted by the war, and favoured the sciences. He also sent literary contributions to the famous Benedictine Mabillon and founded an academy for clergy at his monastery. The learned Calmet partook in lectures about the Holy Scriptures there. In addition, Jacinthe became head of the Congregation of Saint Viton and Hidulph. In 1705, he died godly at the age of 69. (Buc. Suppl. p. 84)
