"Stammenbuch..." (1693)

Jean-François Baillard (Johannes Franciscus Baillard) was a secular priest, born on December 6, 1775 at Chêne near Geneva. He studied at the college at Annecy, when the French Revolution broke out and destroyed all religious institutes.

Ordained a priest on March 8, 1800 by the bishop of Lausanne in Fribourg, he faithfully carried out the duties of a missionary in the vicinity of Geneva, whither he had been sent by his superiors, until peace was restored and the exiled priests returned.

Now, in 1803, Jean-François first became the official assistant to the pastor of Chêne and then, in 1816, his successor. He had a very beneficial effect on everyone around him until he finally died godly on April 29, 1854. (Burg. III .256)
