JOHANNINUS DE GALLIO, RELIGIOUS

A page of one of Fortunatus Hueber's
Saints' books,
"Stammenbuch..." (1693)

Johanninus (Johannulus, Gohanolus) was a tertiary of the order of Saint Francis at Cagli (Callium) in the Papal States. He completed his saintly earthly life in A.D. 1372, or probably even earlier, and is remembered also for having worked miracles.

A good while after his death, his head was placed under an iron grating so that it might be seen, and an inscription engraved on a marble stone in his honour was installed there.

Janinus Gallus who, according to Hueber* (p. 252), died on August 23, 1342, may be none other than our Johanninus de Gallio, even though he is said to have died in France (Gallia). (Hub. Men.)
