ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL
Saints celebrated on the 28th of April
Luigi di Reggio (Ludovicus Rhegiensis). This Louis of Reggio, formerly observant of Saint Francis of Assisi in his native city, became the first Capuchin Provincial in Calabria. He died after an indefatigably active and pious life in A.D. 1537.
The Franciscan Martyrology* gives him the title "Blessed." Hueber*, who mentions Luigi on April 27, adds that his place of death was Motta Philocastri in the Nicotera area in Calabria ulteriore.
As Boverius* reports, Luigi's soul was observed to have risen to heaven in the form of a shining star. Immediately after his death, the faithful began to venerate him as a saint.
In 1598 his body was lifted out of the common crypt and buried in the sacristy of the monastery church. The Bollandists* feature his name among the Praetermissi (III. 546). Luigi di Reggio is also remembered on April 27.
