MENNAS PAULUS, MARTYR
Would that the story of Mennas Paulus could be authenticated. According to the legend, he reverently embalmed the body of the holy apostle Peter after the latter's martyrdom for the Christian faith. When Mennas Paulus was reported to the authorities, brought before the court for this and given the choice of his death, said: "Kill me as you please." Papebroche* places him among the Praetermissi (v. 532).
