Saints celebrated on the 3rd of April
According to Hueber*, Pedro Melgaro (Petrus), died godly c. 1523 at the Consolation of Mary Convent in Borba, Portugal. He was born at Valencia in Spain, and served for a time in the army of Ferdinand the Catholic and his wife Isabella. Around the year 1474 he was captured by the Portuguese, who at the time were at war with Spain (under Alphonso V).
Calling on the Mother of God, Pedro was liberated by a miracle. In gratitude, he built the Franciscan monastery at Truxillo in Estremadura and, with the approval of his wife, entered the Order himself. He became a priest and founded the religious province of Saint Gabriel, Archangel. His piety and austerity earned him an honourable place in the menologies of his Order.
