POLYDORE, RELIGIOUS AND GARDENER

Polydore (Polydorus), a lay brother of the Order of the Friars Minor, who was born in Rome and died a godly death in Scarlino in Tuscany about A.D. 1454, is listed among the Praetermissi by the Bollandists*.

Polydore had held the office of mayor of Siena, but renounced this dignity, all honours and riches, in order to do the work of a gardener with the greatest humility and self-denial. Hueber* tells us that Polydore was graced with visions and raptures. (I.359).
