ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY
Saints celebrated on the 4th of February
Saint Ancirad (Anciradus, Anacirardus, Hancarardus) was born in Germany and travelled to Portugal. Around the year 850 he commenced his hermit's life not far from Santirena. As time went on, Ancirad founded many monasteries of the Order of Saint Augustine. On his way home he is said to have been killed by muggers not far from Lake Zürich.
Some sources, however, believe that he is identical with Meinrad, whose festival is celebrated on January 21. The Bollandists* do not make a clear statement about Saint Ancirad's identity, but they suggest that at the time when the Moors ruled Spain it was hardly to be expected that a German would even advance as far as Portugal, let alone found many monasteries there.
