SAINT BASINUS, ARCHBISHOP OF TRIER
Descended from a noble family in Austrasia and well educated from his youth, Basinus entered the monastery of Saint Maximin in Trier [Treves], where he was elected abbot following his predecessor Herwin's death.
Later he became archbishop of Trier. In his new role, Basinus devoted himself to attaining spiritual perfection, as well as building churches and directing the education of his nephew, Louis, who succeeded him in the archbishopric when, worn out by the burden of the episcopal office, he retired to monastic solitude.
Basinus went to his eternal reward towards the end of the 7th century, on March 4, and was buried in the Abbey of Saint Maximin.
