ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH
Saints celebrated on the 6th of March
Saint Hesychius, called Thaumaturgus, i.e. miracle worker, is also mentioned as "the ascetic" in the Meneae*.
He was a native of Andrapena on the Pontus Galaticus, between Ancyra and Amasea in Bithynia. Longing for heaven, he left his earthly home at an early age and went into the deserts and wilderness. He dwelt on Mount Majo, where he built a small church in honour of the apostle Andrew, not far from Adriania in Bithynia. His gift of miracle working proved particularly effective in conjuring up and driving out evil spirits.
He died between the years 788 and 797. In 808 the bishop Theophylactus of Amasea solemnly raised his mortal remains and buried them on the right side of the altar. His life is summed up thus in one of the menologies: "You gave yourself to the quiet life, you quiet one. At the end of life you left it quietly." (I.456) Saint Hesychius is also commemorated on March 4.
