WELCOME!
BLESSED ERICIUS, RELIGIOUS
Blessed Ericius (Ericus, Erizso, [Eric]), a Florentine, was the first disciple of Saint John Gualbert (Johannes Gualbertus). Ericius was appointed dean of Vallumbrosa Abbey by him and was the fourth general of Saint John Gualbert's Congregation. He lived 36 years in said abbey, famous for miracles and sanctity of life, and died on February 9, 1094. He was buried there.
In A.D. 1600 (according to others 1604), Bishop Alexander of Fiesole solemnly enrolled Ericius among the "blessed", along with nine friars. Their bodies were buried in a chapel. In Vallumbrosa, Ericius' feast day is celebrated on the day of his elevation and beatification (August 1). The Bollandists* were unable to include the ecclesiastical decree of beatification. (Feb. II. 276. Aug. I. 101)
