BLESSED EUSEBIUS, ABBOT
Blessed Eusebius, of Gran (Strigonium) in Hungary, was born towards the close of the 12th century. He was descended from one of the noblest families of Hungary, and is the founder of the hermits of Saint Paul.
His youth was very edifying. As he grew older, he distributed his goods among the poor and retired to a forest. Disciples soon gathered around him, for whom he founded a monastery, dedicated to Saint Paul, the first hermit. These men observed the statutes of the Regular Augustinian Canons.
His death took place on January 20, 1270. The order itself spread from Hungary to Austria and Poland. At the end of the last century [this text was written in the 19th century], Emperor Joseph II abolished this Order in all of his domains. (Mg.)
