Eusebius, a student of Origen's pupil Pamphilus, became bishop of Christian community in his then predominantly pagan hometown of Caesarea on the Mediterranean coast of Palestine around 314 AD. A most prolific writer, he authored works on exegesis, apologetics, historiography (including the famous "Church History" in several editions between 290 and 325), and political theology.
