ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST
Saints celebrated on the 26th of August
SAINT ERLUIN, CONFESSOR
Saint Erluin (Erluinus, Herluinus) was of noble family and related to the Counts of Flanders. He devoted himself to military service, which career he pursued until he was 37 years old.
After calling the life as a knight a day, he began to build a church with his own hands. At the age of 40, he started to educate himself and to pursue sciences, in which he made marvellous advances.
On higher inspiration he then built a monastery (Beccum) and afterwards taught the monks. Lanfranc and Anselm, who later became archbishops of Canterbury, were among his pupils. In A.D. 1078, Erluin died at the age of 84. (Buc.)
