ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST
Saints celebrated on the 9th of August
Of noble family, Saint Erneus (Ernaeus, Herneus, Erineus, French: St-Ernie) was born in the province of Aquitaine. He flourished in the sixth century.
Bishop Innocent of Mans (Cenomanum) ordained Erneus a priest, and then made him abbot of Céaulcé (in the French province of Maine).
Graced with a most amazing gift of miracles, Erneus eventually concluded his holy life in the peace of the Lord. For a long time he remained relatively unnoticed outside his province, until finally, in 1625, Benedictus Gonnous dedicated a memorial to him in his "Life of the Occidental Fathers", after which his name started to be listed in some of the martyrologies. (II. 425)
