SAINT EUMENIUS, BISHOP OF GORTINA
Saint Eumenius (Eumenus) was a bishop of Gortina, a city on the island of Crete now in ruins. He most probably lived in the 7th century, seems to have been expelled to the Thebais and died there as a fierce opponent of the Eutychian and Monothelite sects. In the Roman Martyrology* he is called Eumenus and is listed on September 18. (V. 786)
