ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST
Saints celebrated on the 3rd of August
SAINT EUPHRONIUS, BISHOP
The name Euphronius is Greek; it means cheerful, joyful, benevolent.
Saint Euphronius was distinguished by piety and his extensive knowledge of science. Even when still just a priest, he built a church at Autun in honour of the martyr Saint Symphorian; he also sent marble to Tours to enhance the tomb of Saint Martin.
He was friends with Bishop Sidonius Apollinaris of Auvergne and Bishop Lupus of Troyes. Euphronius did definitely not die prior to A.D. 476, because, as bishop of Autun (Augustodunum) he signed the Council held in Arles in 475. His resting place is in the Church of Saint Symphorian.
On August 3, Saint Euphronius is also listed in the Roman Martyrology*. (I. 227)
