WELCOME!

BLESSED EVERHARD SALERNITANUS, ABBOT

Blessed Everhard (Everhardus Salernitanus), a German abbot, was a descendant of the noble family of the Counts of Rhordorff. Bucelin* states that this illustrious gentleman joined the Dominicans, but the Bollandists*, on the other hand, claim that he became a Cistercian.

As abbot of his monastery (monast. Salernitan.) he had charge of it for 51 years. Rich in virtue he entered his eternal rest in A.D. 1240. We cannot say where this monastery was located. The institute in question might have been Salurn in Tyrol, between Trento and Bozen, but it was definitely not Salerno in Naples. (II. 200)
