WELCOME!

EVERHARD, COUNT OF ALTERNACH

A page of one of Fortunatus Hueber's
Saints' books,
"Stammenbuch..." (1693)

In A.D. 1133, Everhard (Everhardus, Eberhard), Count of Alternach or Berg, founded the Cistercian monastery in Altenberg (Aldenberg) in the current government district of Cologne. After various pilgrimages, Everhard himself entered this monastery and also died there.

Gelenius* lists him as "Blessed Everhardus" but, on the other hand, he seems not to be mentioned as such in the catalogues of saints of the Cistercians*, and the Bollandists*, too, were also unable to find evidence of his veneration. (v. 126)
