SAINT EUSTRATIUS, THAUMATURGUS
Saint Eustratius, nicknamed "the miracle worker," was the son of pious parents from a village in Bithynia. Well educated, he left his parents at the age of 20 to join the monastery of Augari in Mysia, where his cousins Gregory and Basil also lived.
There he spent a life of severe self-denial. Driven out of his quiet monastic abode by the iconoclasts, he returned after peace had been restored and died there, resplendent with miracles after a holy life, at the age of 95. He flourished in the 9th century. (I. 598)
