SAINT EUTICIUS, ABBOT
Saint Euticius lived in the 9th century. As a layman, he zealously devoted himself to the study of the writings of the fathers, then became a monk and won the favour of King Louis to such an extent that the latter built him a monastery in his own palace. For more than forty years, Euticius never ate a bite before he had shed holy tears. He died of old age as abbot of Baume or Beaume les Nonnes (Balma) in Burgundy. (I. 823)
