SAINT EUTYCHIUS, BISHOP OF COMO
Born of pious parents in Vico, not far from Como, in Northern Italy and distinguished by virtue and science, Eutychius succeeded Bishop Eusebius of Como (Novocomum) around A.D. 525. After some years as bishop, he went into solitude to prepare himself for a happy eternity by serving God day and night through fasting, prayer and holy penitential tears. He fell asleep in the Lord around the year 532.
A dispute arose about the place of his burial. As no agreement could be reached, it was decided to place his body on a new wagon without a carter. The location where the horses would stop and stand still of their own accord, it should become the holy bishop's place of burial. The horses came to a halt at Vico near the church of Saint George; there he was accordingly buried. In 1569 as well as in 1641 translations of his holy relics took place. (I. 451)
