ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY
Saints celebrated on the 9th of February
SAINT JULIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
(S.S. Julius and 31 Soc. MM.)
Julius, Milicutus, Thyrsus, Pleseus, Roneus, Orbasus, Orinion, Agathon, Recumbus, Bastamus, Sermata, Prothirion, Colorus, Lusus, Aratus, Theonita, Hippus, Germanus, Saturnilla, Pectimus, Serapion, Liastamon, Papia, Pampirus, Dioscodus, Herodus, Potamon, Peticonides, Cuminus, Zoticus, Cyriacus and Hippias obtained the palm of martyrdom in Egypt.
It is worth observing that on January 18 (II. 188) there are listed 37 Martyrs of Egypt, headed by Saint Paul. Among these, there are several names that are similar or even identical to those mentioned here on February 9, so that one might think that both groups of martyrs are the same; but there are definitely 37 martyrs named with Saint Paul and Companions, Martyrs of Egypt, and only 32 with Saint Julius and Companions, Martyrs of Egypt. Therefore the Bollandists* arrived at the conclusion that they were different groups of people and therefore listed them separately on February 9. (II. 294).
