SAINT LUCIAN AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
(SS. Lucianus and 47 Soc. MM.)
Saints Lucian (Lucianus), Editius (Advitus), Peter, Felix, Orbanus, Martha, Crisconina, Cajus, Florentius, Donatilla, Rogatilla, another Donatilla, Marcellina, Nummadus, Felianus, Nidas, Flavus, Asser, Atulinus, Sanula, Casus, Dicianus , Januarius, Diddus, Securis, Sellaris, Exuppus, Jubitana, Gemeliana (Gemellus), Julia, Fortunata, Peregrine, Victoricus, Maxentius, Gegalus (Gegolus), another Lucian, Honoratus, Flavian, another Felix, Castus, , Saturus, Felicissimus, Victor, Maria, Januaria, Rufiniana, Fortunatus, Aurelius and Rutilus died as martyrs at Nicomedia in Bithynia.
Whether this holy Saint Lucian was a priest, as some martyrologies state, cannot be determined with certainty. So much is known: some of those named here were deacons and clergymen. This Saint Lucian is a different person than Saint Lucian (March 18).
It is possible, however, that these martyrs, Antiochians of both sexes, were associated with Saint Lucian (January 7) and dragged to Nicomedia to be martyred there on February 24, so that Saint Lucian would have been mentioned twice, on January 7 and on February 24. (III. 460).
