OSWI, KING OF NORTHUMBERLAND
Oswi (Oswy, Oswius), King of Northumberland, died in A.D. 670. During his reign, Saint Hilda held a council (Synodus Pharensis) at Streaneshalch in the year 664, and at it negotiated the celebration of Easter and the tonsure of the clergy. It was in her convent that his daughter, Saint Elfleda, was educated. His wife Eanfleda is a saint, too. (II. 804. cf. 779).
