SAINT GILDARD, PRIEST AND CONFESSOR
Saint Gildard (Gildardus, Geldardus) was a priest and confessor in the territory of Nevers at Leurcy le Bourg (Luperciacum) in France. Some sources mention him together with the abbot and confessor Patrick (Patritius). The Mart. Parisienne* (1727 edition), for example, lists the two holy men on the same day, adding that at the time of Charles the Fat there was an abbey in the diocese of Nevers named after Saint Gildard, and that he flourished in the 7th century. It does not, however, provide any specific details of his life or work (IV. 840).
