SAINT OPILIUS, DEACON
Saint Opilius, a deacon, was the elder brother of Saint Gelasius. He lived in Piacenza (Placentia) in the 5th century. Distinguished by many miracles and his deep devotion to the martyr Saint Anthony, he had attended the saint's translation, which was undertaken by Bishop Sabinus (Feb. I. 465). Day and night he stayed in communion with the angels and saints in the church dedicated to Saint Anthony. (l. c. I. 961). When, in 510, he passed to his eternal reward, his face was reported to have shone with heavenly splendour. (VI. 64 and 65)
