SAINT ORONTIUS, BISHOP
Saint Orontius (Oronius), first bishop of Carpentras (Carpentoracte Meminorum), nicknamed Modestus, is said to have flourished around the year 445. However, some sources state that not Orontius, but rather Saint Valentine was the first bishop of this city. Saint Valentine flourished around 286 or 312. (cf. Gallia chr. n. I. 895).
