SAINT PARAGORIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS OF CORSICA
(S.S. Paragorius et Soc. M.M.)
Saints Paragorius, Parthaeus, Parthenopeus and Severin, martyrs, are venerated at Noli (Naulium) in Liguria, on the Genoa-Nice road, where they have their own church (the Cathedral). According to Ferrarius*, they were killed for the Christian faith on the island of Corsica; however, it is not known at what time and what manner of death they suffered.
The altarpiece at Noli depicts Saint Paragorius on horseback, whereas his companions are shown on foot, suggesting that Paragorius was their leader. Formerly the faithful were able to admire an old antiphon written on parchment, which was sung on their feast day, in which were contained the words: "They have suffered on the island of Corsica" (passi sunt in insula Corsicae), while the rest had become illegible with age. - Apart from these facts, there is no more information available about them (III. 44).
