SAINT PARMENIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
(S.S. Parmenius et Soc. M.M.)
During the reign of Emperor Decius (about A.D. 251), in Cordula in Persia, the holy priests Parmenius, Helymas, and Chrysotelus (Chysotelus), the deacons Lucas (Lucius) and Mucius, as well as Primulus and Tudimus were killed for the Christian faith.
The martyrs were encouraged by the example of their bishop Polychronius, whose feast is celebrated on February 17.
They were cruelly tortured. Parmenius, although his tongue had been cut off, spoke in a clear voice to his companions words of comfort and encouragement. Finally they were all beheaded.
Saints Abdon and Sennen buried the bodies of these saintly martyrs at their estate near Cordula (III. 11).
