Saint Sophia suffered for the faith in the third age, at Fermo, in Italy, where her festival is kept on April 30 with great devotion. Her head is shown in a rich case in the cathedral.

A 3rd century Christian maiden who laid down her life for Christ at Fermo in Central Italy, probably during the persecution under Decius (A.D. 250).
