PAUL OF MARCHIA, RELIGIOUS
Paul (Paulus a Marchia), originally from Spoleto, was Provincial in the former Marc Ancona, and is therefore usually called Paul of Marchia. He died at Macerata in A.D. 1251 (according to Artur*, who lists him as "Blessed Paul", in 1241), famous for many miracles. His portrait at the convent of Spoleto bears the inscription: "Blessed Paul of Spoleto, among the first of his Order, an excellent preacher." In fact, he was a direct student of Saint Francis of Assisi. Paul of Marchia is also remembered on March 16 (III. 898).
