SAINT JOHN AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
(S.S. Johannes et 19 Soc. M.M.)
In A.D. 797, these holy monks of the Laura of Saint Sabas near Jerusalem were murdered by the Saracens for being Christians: John, Sergius, Patrick (Patricius), Cosmas, Anasius, Theoctistus. 14 others, whose names have not come down to us, were also killed for the same reason. Eight days earlier, 40 monks were martyred, who are commemorated in May.
