ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST
Saints celebrated on the 6th of August
BL. BERTHA OF BIBURG, VIRGIN
Blessed Bertha [Berta], commemorated on August 6, was a daughter of Count Heinrich of Hilpoltstein and his wife Bertha.
After the death of their parents, Bertha and her brother Erbo used Biburg Castle, which had come to them as an inheritance from their parents, to found a Benedictine monastery. During the conversion phase, Bertha herself carried stones to the building site. The siblings had been encouraged in this enterprise by St Otto of Bamberg.
According to Raderus*, Bertha is buried in Biburg Monastery near Abensberg. Her headstone reads: "In the year of our Lord 1151 died Bertha, foundress of this monastery." (Rad.)
