WELCOME!
SAINTS AGAPIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS OF NUMIDIA
Saints Agapius and
Secundinus, two bishops, Theodore, a priest, Marian, a lector, James, a deacon, Emile, a soldier, Tertulia and Antonia, two virgins, a woman with two twins, also Secundianus, Concordius, Florian, Gaber, Gajanus , Postumus, Momminus, Quintian, Cassius, Fasilus, Florentius, Demetrius, Gududus, Crispin, Donalus, a second Crispin, Beon and many others, both clergy and laymen, were martyred in Numidia under the emperor Valerian. Some of these holy martyrs suffered in Cirtha (now Constantine), some in Lambesa, around the year 259 or 260.
The bodies of Marianus and James were later relocated to Gubbio (
Eugubium) in Umbria. The
Roman Martyrology* lists these holy martyrs according to their place of martyrdom, namely those of Cirtha on April 29 and those of Lambesa on April 30, just as the very ancient martyrologies do (e.g. the one of Ado). The
Bollandists* mention all of the martyrs on April 30, following Bede and some other writers.
