SAINT ROGER, BISHOP OF CANNA
This holy bishop was born in Canna [Cannae], now called Canna distrutta. Well-mannered and educated, he first became a cleric at the local cathedral and finally a bishop. As such, this zealous, humble man was a veritable blessing to his flock. His funeral took place in his episcopal city. But when the Saracens made the area increasingly unsafe, the relics were transferred to Barletta (Barolum) near Trani, (in 1275) where they rest in St Stephen's Church. His head and other body parts are at Andria. The translation celebration is celebrated on the second Sunday after Easter. The date of death is December 30 or October 15.
