BEORNRED, ARCHBISHOP
Beornred (Beornredus, Beornardus, Bernardus), an abbot at the monastery of Saint Willibrord in Echternach (Epternach), initially held the archbishop's office (where is not stated, but probably in Trier¹, since this monastery is located in its catchment area). Some time later he withdrew into the solitude of the monastery mentioned. He was elected abbot against his will and died in the year 796. Saint Willehad, the first bishop of Bremen, lived under Beornred's direction for two years. Our source lists Beornred with the title “venerable.” (Buc. Sppl.)
