 WELCOME!

BLESSED EGWARD, BISHOP OF SCHLESWIG

Blessed Egward (Ekkehard), commemorated on August 28, originally a Benedictine monk at Hirschau in Württemberg, was subsequently elevated to the episcopal see of Schleswig by Emperor Otto I. Some were jealous of his power of prayer, because God brought back to life a drowned man through Egward. The people knew him by the honorary title “Man of God.” Egward died around the year 965. Castellan* lists this same holy bishop as S. Gormanus; this seems to be a typing error. (Lech., Buc.)

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Blessed Egward may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
