BLESSED FRANCIS OF ABERDEEN, RELIGIOUS AND MARTYR
Blessed Francis (Franciscus), commemorated on February 21, was a monk of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Aberdeen in Scotland. While the monastery was being plundered, Francis was hurled down the stairs upside down by the heretics, whereby he suffered such injuries that his brains burst out of his head and he subsequently gave up the ghost. Although a "blessed," he never seems to have been declared a martyr in the ecclesiastical sense.

William the Lion is said to have bestowed his palace on the friars in 1211. The monastery of Trinitarian Friars was first documented in 1274. The friary was sacked by Reformers in 1560, but the buildings remained and the church was used by Protestants until 1794 when it was demolished to make room for a new church. Nothing remains of the original monastic buildings. The Trinitarian Friary is thought to have been located near the current junction of Guild Street and Trinity Street.
