MARIA OF BRABANT, DUCHESS OF BAVARIA
Maria [Mary, Marie] of Brabant was the daughter of Duke Henry the Magnanimous of Brabant (Henry II) and wife of Duke Louis the Strict¹ (Adlzreitter: severi longe lenius quam facinus meruit, consecutus est cognomentum) of Bavaria. Famous for her beauty, piety and goodness of heart, she was innocently killed by him in 1256 at Donauwörth on suspicion of infidelity, along with other guiltless people.
Maria of Brabant is called "blessed" by Raderus* because her innocence was confirmed to the duke by miracles. However, she does not enjoy ecclesiastical veneration. She is buried in Donauwörth, where her son, Count Palatine Rudolf donated an eternal Mass and an eternal light. The Bollandists* list Maria among the Praetermissi. (II. 180).
¹ [Louis II (the Strict - Ludwig der Strenge, *1229) was Duke of Upper Bavaria and Count Palatine of the Rhine from 1253. He was son of Otto II Wittelsbach, Duke of Bavaria.]
