MARK OF BOLOGNA, RELIGIOUS

Mark (Marcus) was a Franciscan from Bologna who some sources refer to as "blessed". He died in 1479 after heroically overcoming many sufferings. Of good family, Mark further ennobled the privileges of his birth by a holy life, and often headed the entire Franciscan Order in Italy as Vicar General. During his active life he stayed at various monasteries, among them Aquila, Assisi and Naples.

In 1527 a transfer of his relics took place in Piacenza. The Hueb. Menol.* mentions that numerous miraculous healings are attributed to him. Nevertheless, his veneration has not been proven, which is why the Bollandists* mention Mark among their Praetermissi. The Seraphic Martyrology* commemorates him on May 27.
