SAINT BRIGIDA OF FIESOLE, VIRGIN
Brigida [Brigid], a virgin who is venerated at Fiesole in Etruria, was born of a noble family in Scotland (actually in Ireland, since more ancient sources refer to both countries as one and the same). When her brother Andrew was at death's door, Brigida was transported to Italy by an angel. She remained with her dying brother, prayed, and kept him company.
After his death she went into a desert, led a very austere life there, and died towards the end of the 9th century. A church was built at the place where she stayed and it was given the name of the saint. It is uncertain whether she was already a nun in Scotland (Ireland). In any case, she did not found a monastery, as some writers erroneously claim.
