SAINT BRIGIDA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR

Seaport With the Embarkation of
Saint Ursula and Virgin Companions,
by Claude Lorrain, 1641

Brigida [Brigid, Bridget] was a virgin and martyr. She is believed to have been one of the ladies of the company of Saint Ursula. Although her feast day is October 21, she is venerated on February 4 in Cologne, Germany, at the Church of John the Baptist and Cordula (according to the records of Aegidius Gelenius*.)

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Brigida may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
