UNWAN, BISHOP OF BREMEN
Unwan (Unwin, Ungan, Unwannus) (27 or 28 January), a bishop of Bremen, successor to Libentius I, who died in 1013, was an extremely learned and God-fearing man. He led this church for 16 years and in the year 1022 convened a Danish National Council in Schleswig. King Knud himself, who usually stayed in England, came to Denmark on this occasion. The resolutions of the same no longer seem to exist (according to Jensen, Schlesw.-Holst. K.-G. I. 108). Bishop Unwan died on January 28, 1029. The Bollandists* list Unwan among the Praetermissi since it is uncertain whether he may be venerated as a saint.
