Vicogne Abbey |
¹Gerard (Gérard, Gerardus), a Premonstratensian and prior at Vicogne (Viconia) in Hainaut, was famous for his learning and holiness. He is also remembered for the infernal temptations which he successfully overcame. He enjoys no ecclesiastical veneration. However, some writers list him as “blessed.”
²Gérard is said to have served as abbot for forty-nine years. He is mentioned in 1164 in the charter of Baudouin, Count of Hainaut.
