ABBO, BISHOP OF AUXERRE
Abbo, Bishop of Auxerre, entered the monastery of Saint Germanus (Saint-Germain) in this city, where he also took his vows. He later became abbot of this monastery and also bishop, as which he only reigned for two years.
Even as bishop he always wore the religious habit and did not relax any of the strictness he had acquired in his youth. He died in the 9th century, loved and revered by his flock.
When his grave was opened in the 17th century, Abbo's body was found to still be completely intact, wearing penitential clothing. Mabillon* list this holy man as “pious” (pius).
