WELCOME!

BLESSED GERALD, ABBOT OF CLAIRVAUX

Blessed Gerald (Geraldus), commemorated on October 16, was a Cistercian abbot of Clairvaux. Formerly of Fossanuova in Italy, this holy man tolerated no laxity among the brethren and, because of his zeal, fell victim to the revenge of a disgruntled monk who assassinated him in 1177. The crime happened in Igny; his body rests at Clairvaux with the title "martyr" inscribed above his mortal remains. (El., Mg.)
