VENERABLE GERALD OF ANGERA - 1 MAY
Batalha, Portugal
Venerable Gerald (Geraldus, Giraldus) is remembered on May 1. A canon regular who is said to have lived in the 12th century, Gerald's intercession is invoked at a monastery near Angera in Portugal (a few miles south of Oporto). His head was kept in the Dominican church of Anseda and venerated under the name “the holy head”. In view of this, some writers list him with the title “venerable”. (I. 3. 754-756.)
